GEO Agent
A real citation-gap check for the modern, AI-mediated web
GEO stands for Generative Engine Optimization — showing up when people search for your product, not just in classic Google rankings. This agent checks one concrete thing: does your own domain actually appear in real live search results for the queries people would run about you?
Free, self-hosted · Bring your own Tavily key
The problem
Most teams have no idea whether they actually show up in AI-era search results
Without a GEO check
- No idea whether real search results ever mention your brand
- Manually retyping the same queries to check, over and over
- Generic SEO tools that only look at Google rankings
- No record of what was actually found last time you checked
With the GEO Agent
- A repeatable, deterministic 3-query citation-gap check on demand
- Real Tavily web-search results — not a model's opinion on visibility
- The exact matched URL recorded when your domain is found
- Self-hosted — your own Tavily key, your own data, nothing sent to us
What is it?
What Is Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)?
Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the practice of getting your brand mentioned and cited in AI answers — the way SEO gets you ranked on Google. AI tools now answer questions directly, so the goal shifts from ranking a link to being the source an AI answer cites.
The GEO Agent checks the concrete, verifiable half of that problem: whether your domain shows up in the real web search results that generative engines draw their citations from — deterministically, not as an LLM's guess.
How it works
How the GEO Agent Checks Your Citation Coverage
Set it up once. Run the check whenever you want a fresh read.
Fire 3 real search queries
Your project name, "...alternative", and a best-of/review query — via Tavily's live web search API. Example shown above, illustrative not live data.
Check for a real hostname match
No model opinion — the agent parses the URLs in the actual results and checks if your domain's hostname appears anywhere in them.
Get a deterministic result
Every row is found:true/false against real response data — reproducible, not a guess that could vary run to run.
Capabilities
What the GEO Agent Actually Checks
A narrow, verifiable signal — done honestly, not padded with features that don't exist yet.
Real web-search grounding
Every check calls Tavily's live search API — the same kind of results generative engines draw citations from, not a simulated guess.
Deterministic hostname matching
Parses the real URLs in each result set and checks for an exact hostname match against your domain — reproducible every run.
Matched URL as evidence
When your domain is found, the specific URL is recorded alongside the query — a citation you can go verify yourself.
Run it whenever you want
No scheduled cadence baked in — check after a launch, a content push, or a competitor move, as often as makes sense for you.
What it actually does
Every run fires three real search queries through Tavily's web search API — a genuine live search, not an LLM guessing whether you're "probably visible." For each query, the agent looks at the hostnames in the actual results and records whether your own domain shows up, plus the matched URL when it does. No model opinion is involved in the check itself: a citation gap here means your domain was genuinely absent from live search results, verified deterministically against the response data.
Your project name
Searches the live web for your product name and checks if your domain appears anywhere in the results.
"<project name> alternative"
Checks whether you show up when people search for alternatives to your own product.
"best <category> tools" (or a review-style fallback)
Checks whether your domain surfaces in the kind of best-of / review query real buyers actually type.
What this is not
This agent does not poll ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Claude to see if they mention you, and it doesn't simulate what an AI assistant might say about your product. It checks a narrower, verifiable signal: whether your domain shows up in real web search results for queries tied to your product — the same kind of results that generative engines and AI answers draw their citations from.
Requires a Tavily API key
The GEO Agent runs on Tavily's live search API, so it needs a Tavily key connected before it can check anything. Add yours from the Live integrations list on the Integrations page — self-hosted, it stays in your own local database; hosted, it's encrypted on our servers.
